St. Paul Lutheran Church
Monthly Member Newsletter for April, 2013
- Pastor's Comments:
Rev. Dr. Harold Senkbeil
wrote a powerful book about a decade ago entitled, “Dying to Live: The Power of
Forgiveness.” I encourage everyone to read it. It is a fantastic
book. One section in the book was very moving and helpful to me, and I
want to share some thoughts with you. In the section, Dr. Senkbeil quoted
Isaiah 30.30 – “The Lord will cause His glorious voice to be heard.” He
makes the point that I hope is helpful for you in your daily trust in the Lord
that God is always taking the lead in our relationship. In a waltz,
someone has to lead and someone has to be lead, or it just doesn’t work.
That is the way it is in our relationship with the Lord. He has to
lead. He has to set the course. We follow. The fundamental
way the Lord takes the lead is through His Word. Our routine liturgy is
drawn from God’s Word. Its content and rhythm reflect the biblical truth
about God’s relationship with us. We begin the liturgy calling upon the
Lord and confessing our on-going need of His mercy. That is something
that is true of each day we live. He is our Father; of course we call
upon Him and He is merciful. We need to always confess how much we need
His loving pardon and always trust in His forgiveness. We have specific
on-going needs for which we pray reflected in the Kyrie. In every
petition, we ask God to respond to us out of His mercy – not our merit.
Each day of our lives there is something unique about that day for which we can
pray – just like in the Prayer of the Day in the liturgy. And we read His
Word. It is a tremendous help to our faith to read God’s Word every
day. These are some things to think about this month. I’ll cover
more next month. But for now, think about how our Sunday liturgy really
is about our real day-in and day-out relationship with God. In the
liturgy we are being taught from God’s Word the way to live so that God is
always leading us and we are always being lead.
Grace
and peace, Pastor White

Please
Note: If we have missed anyone's birthday or anniversary
during the last year, please let Karen
Dickens know. These dates were initially
obtained from the “Membership Profile Sheets” pastor asked all the church members
to fill out in July of 2011. If
you came to us after that date and need to get a profile
form, please
let Karen know so we can add your
information and birthday/anniversary dates to our spreadsheets. Thank you.

- St. James – LWML Meetings: In
2013, they will meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Some of the ladies bring lunch,
because they have the prayer meeting before the LWML get-together. They have had 10-12 women at their
previous meetings and would definitely welcome more. Any questions, call Phyllis Marion at
673-2215. She still has a few mite
boxes available if you are interested.
- St. James Weekday Bible Study: St.
James Church, Wednesdays from 6 to 7 pm.
- Prayer Ministry: St. James invites you to gather for
prayer on Saturdays, 10:00 am.
- Choral Recruits: In line with providing beautiful music
to our Lord's glory, our little “choir” is looking for new recruits. If you feel that you can hold a tune and
would like to try us out, please join us Sundays at 8:30 a.m. when
we begin rehearsing before service.
We really need additional voices in all areas. (Contact Sondra Nelson or Karen Dickens)
- Food for Coalition: St. Paul
donates cans of stew, vegetables and fruits to the Coalition
in Southern Pines. Please place these items in the basket in the back of
the church. This is a very
important donation, as there are those right in our immediate area that
are homeless and hungry.
